Let's go back in time to the 18th century. This was the palace of the English governor who was sent to oversee the colony of Virginia. Founded in 1607, she is uniquely known as the birthplace of our country's first permanent colony.
During the War for Independence it became a hospital. Where did the governor go? He fled. Sadly the original palace burned to the ground around that time.
But, there was a man who stayed in the palace for a while who loved to sketch architectural buildings. In fact, he kept an ongoing collection of drawings from the places he had stayed in. Do you know who he was? Hint: He was one of our founding fathers.
It was from Thomas Jefferson's well crafted diagrams that they were able to rebuild the palace to what it is today.
I think I want a green thumb for Christmas. How about you?

Beautiful gardens...a green thumb would definitely be a nice gift...ha ha! but your photos capture it so well! Lovely!
-a green thumb, a really cool camera, and an eye to see like you do.
You have captured this piece of history so beautifully Beth!
oh gosh, I do so appreciate a beautiful garden (especially my mother-in-law's!), but alas, I seem incapable of creating, cultivating, or keeping my own. sigh.
I've always been a big T.J. fan. What gorgeous photos you captured, and just love the b/w conversion.
